Commercial electrical services in Miami

Property managers, owners and builders start at our commercial electrician page. Each service below links to its own page.

Apartment meter stack installation by Solid Power Inc.
  • Tenant improvements and build-outs. Power, lighting, circuits and permits for new and remodeled retail, office and warehouse space. We work with the builder and the inspector.
  • Panel and service upgrades, 100 to 600 amp. Commercial service and distribution equipment, with permit and inspection, planned around the tenant's operating hours.
  • Generators. Standby generators with an automatic transfer switch (ATS), and interlock setups. The gas line is run by a licensed plumbing or gas contractor. Permit and inspection apply.
  • LED retrofits. We replace old fixtures with LED in offices, stores and industrial space, and reuse existing circuits where they are sound.
  • Warehouse LED high bays. We own a boom lift and have scissor lift access, so we can reach high ceilings without waiting on a rental.
  • Parking lot lighting. New and replacement pole and wall fixtures, circuits and controls for commercial lots. Miami-Dade is in the Florida Building Code's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), so new light poles and their bases must be designed for HVHZ wind loads, and pole foundations usually need signed and sealed engineering.
  • Electrical repairs for building recertification (30 and 25 years). A Florida-licensed engineer or architect inspects the building and signs the report. We do the permitted electrical repairs it lists.
  • EV chargers for businesses and multifamily. Dedicated circuits and charger installs, permitted and inspected. Read our condo and multifamily EV charger guide.
  • Commercial data cabling. We pull, terminate and test cable. We do not configure network equipment.

Residential electrical in Miami

Homeowners and landlords start at our residential electrician page.

  • Electrical repair and maintenance. We find the cause of dead outlets, flickering lights and failed circuits, and repair it. During troubleshooting and maintenance we use a thermal camera to spot hot spots. Repairs that need a permit get one.
  • Circuit breaker repair. A breaker that keeps tripping or will not reset points to a fault that needs a licensed electrician.
  • Rewiring and new-home wiring. Older homes and additions, done under permit and inspected.
  • Lighting, outlets and GFCI protection. Recessed and decorative lighting, added outlets and GFCI devices installed to code.
  • Backup generators and EV chargers. Interlock and standby generator setups, and Level 2 charger circuits for the garage or driveway.

Miami permits and inspections

  • Electrical permits inside the City of Miami go through the City of Miami Building Department.
  • Unincorporated Miami-Dade is handled by Miami-Dade County Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER). Many Miami-area cities, such as Coral Gables, Doral and Miami Gardens, run their own building offices. We confirm the right office for each address.
  • When you hire a licensed contractor, the contractor pulls the permit under its license, and the work is inspected before the permit is closed. Florida law (Florida Statutes, section 489.503) lets some property owners pull their own electrical permit as an owner-builder, with limits: the owner signs the permit in person, takes on the contractor's legal responsibilities, and cannot build for sale or lease. We advise hiring a licensed electrical contractor.
  • The electrical code is the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), adopted through the Florida Building Code.
  • Miami-Dade is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) under the Florida Building Code. Outdoor equipment such as generators and light poles must be anchored or designed for HVHZ wind loads, and some installs need signed and sealed engineering.
  • In Miami-Dade, buildings other than single-family homes, duplexes and small buildings (2,000 sq ft or less, occupant load of 10 or less) are recertified at 30 years (25 for condo/co-op buildings three stories or taller within three miles of the coast), then every 10 years, under the Code of Miami-Dade County, Section 8-11. Older buildings may be on a different schedule set by the building official. A Florida-registered engineer or architect signs the report.

Why hire a licensed electrical contractor

  • Florida requires a license to contract for electrical work (Florida Statutes, Chapter 489, Part II). Solid Power Inc. holds Florida electrical contractor license EC13008432.
  • Check it yourself. Go to MyFloridaLicense.com and search EC13008432 or our company name.
  • A licensed contractor pulls the permit under its license. Contracting electrical work without a Florida license is illegal (Florida Statutes, section 489.531).
  • Work done under a permit is inspected by the building department, which gives you a second set of eyes on the job.

Solid Power Inc. is a licensed Florida electrical contractor, license EC13008432, based in Hialeah, next to Miami. We do commercial work such as tenant build-outs, generators, EV chargers, LED lighting and data cabling, plus residential repairs and rewiring, in Miami and across Miami-Dade and Broward. Call 305-305-3619, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Do you have an office in Miami?

No. Solid Power Inc. is based in Hialeah, next to Miami, and we drive to job sites in Miami, the rest of Miami-Dade and Broward. Call 305-305-3619 or email office@solidpowerfl.com with the job address and what you need, and we will tell you what we can schedule.

How do I check that a Miami electrical contractor is licensed?

Search the contractor's name or license number on MyFloridaLicense.com, the state's license lookup. Statewide electrical contractor licenses start with EC. Ours is EC13008432. The record shows the license status and business name. If the number is missing or does not match the company, ask before any work starts.

Who issues electrical permits in Miami, the city or the county?

Inside the City of Miami, permits go through the City of Miami Building Department. In unincorporated Miami-Dade, they go through Miami-Dade County RER, and other cities have their own offices. The work must meet the NEC (NFPA 70) as adopted by the Florida Building Code. Solid Power Inc. confirms the right office for each address.

Can you handle commercial tenant build-outs in Miami?

Yes. Solid Power Inc. does commercial tenant improvement electrical in Miami: power, lighting, circuits and permits for retail, office and warehouse space. We work with the builder and the inspector, and plan the work around the tenant's operating hours. Call 305-305-3619 with the address and the scope.

Can you replace high-bay lights in a Miami warehouse?

Yes. Solid Power Inc. installs and replaces LED high bays in warehouses. We own a boom lift and have scissor lift access for ceilings that need one. We review the layout, circuits and ceiling height first, and pull permits where they are required. Call 305-305-3619 to talk through your building.

Can you install a standby generator for a Miami business?

Yes. Solid Power Inc. installs standby generators with an automatic transfer switch (ATS), and interlock setups. Most business backup generators are optional standby systems under NEC Article 702. If the building code or the fire official requires backup power, NEC Article 700 or 701 applies instead. The work needs a permit and inspection, and a licensed plumbing or gas contractor runs the gas line. Miami-Dade is in the HVHZ, so the generator pad and anchoring must be designed for HVHZ wind loads under the Florida Building Code.

Who does the electrical repairs for a 30-year building recertification in Miami-Dade?

A Florida-licensed engineer or architect inspects the building and signs the report. Solid Power Inc. does not issue or sign it. When the report calls for electrical repairs, we do that permitted work. Under the Code of Miami-Dade County, Section 8-11, most buildings other than single-family homes and duplexes are recertified at 30 years, or at 25 years for condo and co-op buildings three stories or taller within three miles of the coast, then every 10 years.

Can you install an EV charger in Miami?

Yes, for homes and commercial properties. A charger usually needs its own dedicated circuit and a permit, and the installation follows NEC Article 625 as adopted by the Florida Building Code. Solid Power Inc. checks the existing electrical service first. Call 305-305-3619 with your charger model and where you want it mounted.

What are your hours, and do you work after hours?

Solid Power Inc. hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. After-hours work is by appointment only, and most work is scheduled in advance. Call 305-305-3619 or email office@solidpowerfl.com, tell us what you need, and we will tell you what we can schedule.
